As a result of the traditional pressing, Meandro shows an intense greenish colour. It has the vibrant acidity of Arinto combined with the lively fruit of the Rabigato. The mouth feel is surprisingly dense with bright freshness.

The 2022 Meandro do Vale Meão was produced with grapes from their vineyards and 30% from local growers, all in all 45% Touriga Nacional, 38% Touriga Franca, 10% Tinta Roriz and dollops of Tinta Barroca and Alicante Bouschet. It vinified partly in granite lagar, partly in stainless steel and partly in oak and matured in used barriques for 14 months. The crop was not bad, and the grapes were healthy. The alcohol level kept to a moderate 13.2%, making it medium-bodied and approachable, with balance and freshness. |

The 2001 Vintage Port is a blend dominated by Touriga Franca. it comes in with 87 grams per liter of residual sugar. This comes with the subtitle "aged at the Quinta," meaning that it has never been released before and it has been aging in bottle all these years (bottled in 2003, wood aged). This is in a great place now, the tannins mostly moderated and the chocolaty and more mature nuances showing perfectly. This is clearly not a youngster, but it is in a perfect place. I wouldn't count on it developing a lot more. There is certainly plenty of life left, though, perhaps more than indicated, and it is delicious. It is a nice price for a mature Port and shows you at least a glimpse of why that matters. The backbone is relatively modest, but I loved the fruit. There were 6,000 bottles produced, approximately.

This is another fabulous vintage of this iconic wine, aged for 16 months in wood. It comes from the spectacular Olazabal family vineyard in the Douro Superior. It shows powerful structure and dark, dense black fruits. The tannins and the wine's concentration point to considerable aging potential.
