About this winery

Growing grapes sustainably has always been a top priority at Grgich Hills. All vineyards are certified organic and farmed biodynamically. This agricultural philosophy treats the Earth as a living organism and uses homeopathic preparations, cosmic rhythms, and nature’s basic life forces to bring about balance between the grapevines and the Earth. Product notes

Grgich HIlls is home to some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the Napa Valley. The Yountville vines were planted in 1959 to the Inglenook clone on St. George rootstock. The roots reach deep into the subsoil to access all of the available nutrients, producing concentrated, intensely flavorful fruit.

Production notes

The wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in French oak for 22 months.

Tasting notes

Full-bodied and well balanced, this Cabernet Sauvignon expresses rich flavors of red currant, elderberry and citrus flower. Pair with braised or roasted meat dishes, or enjoy simply on its own.

January 2017 (Vintage 2014)

Very tight and traditional cabernet with subtle blackberry, raspberry and bark character on both the nose and palate. Hints of peat. Full-bodied, polished and chewy. From biodynamically grown grapes. Give it time to open.

Lots of currants and blackberries on the nose with some violets, following through to a full body with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. Nice balance and freshness to this. Always well balanced. From organically grown grapes.

June 2017

From vines planted in 1959 on old rootstock, this is an intensely concentrated wine, dense and meaty, with flavors of bouillon, cedar, leather and clove. Lengthy and complex, it offers structure and balance within ripe black fruit seasoned by peppercorn.
